Hi,

There are two things I'd like to suggest for a future release.

1. The popup calendar widget that is used to aid in the entering of dates would do well with showing the end of the previous month's dates and the beginning of the following month's dates.

Best way to illustrate this is to activate the calendar widget and notice that this month (Sep. 09) starts on a Tuesday which means that August ended on Monday. Right now Monday is an empty box. I'd like to see a light grey "31" in that box instead. And likewise, this month ends on a Wednesday which means that Thursday to Sunday are all blank. I'd like to see them filled with 1, 2, 3, and 4 respectively.

This works pretty well for every month except Feb. 2010 because it only has four rows. In this case it might not be bad to show the last week of January on row 1, February on rows 2-5, and the first week of March on row 6.

2. Went entering dates via the keyboard I am forced to carefully enter it in the format of mm/dd/yy. I think it's reasonable for the application to make some assumptions that when I type in 9/9/09 I really mean 09/09/09. Or 12/1/09 is really 12/01/09.

Great suggestions! If anyone else would like to see these same calendar improvements, please don't hesitate to post.

I've got another few suggestions for working with dates.

1. Because I'd be typing data into a data field, the system knows it's working with dates. That's obvious. But what that means is that the / doesn't have to be the only delimiter for that field. The delimiter could also be a space which would allow me to type 9 9 09. A little bit faster than using a /.

Acceptable input would be 9 9 09 or 9/9/09.

2. Another thing is that the system can always assume the user is adding a date for the current year unless otherwise specified. So for 9/9/09 I could simply type "9 9" or "9/9". If I wanted a different year I would have to specify that year: "9 9 10" or "9/9/10".

Regards.

I agree on the date issue.
I would even go so far to propose that entering

"+m" should set the date to today + 1 month (but Josh, not 20 working days, but 1 solar month!!!)
"+2m" should set the date to today + 2 months
etc.
same for days (d) or weeks (w)

This would save us the calculating (everybody knows that managers are lazy people.... ;-) kidding)

Cheers

You know you can use "c" for calendar months right? So if you put in 2cm for duration that means 2 consecutive months instead of 2 months of business days (2m). If we were going to do a +m option, it would probably be +1cm for a calendar month and +1m for a month of business days.

Josh, I mean putting in +1m into the data field, not into the duration field, just in order to quickly define a start date (exactly one month from now).

Yes, I got that.. just saying it has to match the conventions we already use elsewhere =)
