I have been using Clarizen for almost two months now.. I am still very much a novice user, but I really feel the solution is missing a "week view" calendar component.
Just a little background: I am a designer. I am not a super user. Generally, our project management team keeps up Clarizen in terms of adding tasks. We (the production staff) are responsible to update our "% complete" and also to enter our hours in the time tracking module.
I would really the ability, at a glance, to see what my week looks like. We are constantly asked by our management "How long will this take, and when can you get it done?" With the current list system, its very difficult to get a solid view of what my week really looks like, in order to give a definitive answer. I'd like to be able to see how many hours I am scheduled for each day, as well as for the whole week.
Here are a few notes:
• This view assumes that today is the 2nd of February
• The colors of the bars behave just like the bullets for tasks
• Overdue tasks appear at the top of the screen. They automatically continue to extend each day they are not complete.
• Tasks marked as complete turn grey, and are reordered to the bottom of the list.
• Each bar starts with the project name in bold, then the task name, followed by the hours/days allotted, and the due date.
• The labels for each task scheduled for that day move to align with the current day, regardless of their start or end dates.
• There are subtle vertical bars at the beginning and end of each task, indicating when something continues into another week.
• Total hours scheduled for the day appear at the top of each column, Total hours for the week appear in the top header
• When switching to the calendar view, the tasks automatically switch to "Upcoming Tasks"
• Each project gets its own horizontal line (but can have multiple lines if there are concurrent tasks).
• The "tips" windows pop up to show the full name of the project and tasks on rolloever.
• Its totally fine if the labels cannot extend beyond one cell, even though the bar extends over multiple days, as long as the "tips" windows function.
• Using the next and back buttons in the header, the user can easily jump to the next or previous week
• Arrows on friday indicate something moving into the next week.
Other Ideas: Things I have thought about that are different from this comp.
• An option to view as a 5 or 7 day week would be swell.
• I'm not sure how to best handle items that are completed ahead of schedule... if you notice the bottom grey'ed out item, there is no dark grey bar on the right of it, indicating that it was planned for more than one day... should this grey box extend into Tuesday as was originally scheduled? or does it end on the day I mark it 100% complete.... The tally for the hours of the following days would then need to be adjusted to reflect the "free" time caused by the early completion.
